Answer» Solution :(i) The Sanchi Stupa was built Asoka, the great Mauryan king. (ii) It is a semi- circular dome like structure. The gateways at the four cardinal points are its main characteristic . (iv) Beautiful carved capitals are fixed above the pillar and below the horizontal base. (v) The gateways of stupa contain lively and beautifully carved depicting the MAJOR events which belonged to the life of Buddha and Jataka STORIES. (vi) They DEPICT the land - scapes of trees, floral designs, animals and birds . (vii) Here, Buddha is not depicted in human form but through various symbols - Buddha tree that shows renunciation. (viii) Sanchi stupa was plain except for the stone railings which resembled a bamboo or WOODEN FENCE. The gateways which were richly carved. |
