1.

Determine the nature of the roots of the quadratic equation 9x2 - 13x + 4 = 0.

Answer»

9x– 13x + 4 = 0

a = 9, b = −13 and c = 4

∴ Discriminant = b2 – 4ac

= (−13)– 4(9)(4)

= 169 – 144

= 25

Since 25 is a perfect square.

Since D > 0, then equation has two real and unequal roots.
