Answer» 1) The role of silica in the metallurgy of COPPER is to REMOVE the iron oxide obtained during the process of extraction of PURE copper from copper pyrite, SiO2 acts as acidic flux which combines with iron oxide(FeO) to form iron SILICATE (FeSiO3).2) In froth floatation process,depressants helps to separate two sulphide ores by selective prevention of froth formation by one ore and allowing the other to come into froth.
