Describe the method by which an iron nail can be made an electromagnet? (draw the figure) |
|
Answer» Answer: Explanation: ∆ Electromagnets can be created by wrapping a wire around an iron nail and running current through the wire. The electric field in the wire coil creates a magnetic field around the nail. ∆ Electromagnets USUALLY consist of wire wound into a coil. A current through the wire creates a magnetic field which is concentrated in the hole, denoting the centre of the coil. The magnetic field DISAPPEARS when the current is turned off. ∆ The magnetic field produced due to current flowing in a coil or a solenoid can be used to magnetise a MATERIAL like soft iron TEMPORARILY. The insulated copper wire is warpped on a soft iron piece. When current is PASSED through the coil using a battery and a key the iron piece behaves like a bar magnet as long as current is being passed. Such a magnet is called an electromagnet. Thank me.
