A democratic government has the objective of giving priority to the welfare of people in whatever decisions it takes. 

Generally, the following functions are performed by a democratic government:

1. The government provides various types of facilities to the people, such asroads, schools, hospitals, electricity, etc. 

2. The government works on various social issues, such as- running various schemes for the uplift of the poor and the deprived people.

3. The government performs important functions of running the railways, post and telegraph services, etc. 

4. A major function of the government is to keep the boundaries of the country safe and secured and to establish cordial relations with other countries. 

5. Another major function of a democratic government is to provide sufficient and nutritious food and quality healthcare services to all the citizens of the country.
