Define resistivity. What are its units ? |
|
Answer» Resistivity (or specific resistance) : It is the resistance of a conductor that is 1 m in length and 1 m2 in cross section area in SI units. (In C.G.S. units, it is the resistance of a conductor that is 1 cm in length and 1 cm2 in cross section area.) Hence, the resistivity is the resistance of a conductor of unit volume. (In case of electrolytic solution, ρ is the resistivity i.e., resistance of a solution of unit volume.) It has SI units, ohm m and C.G.S. units, ohm cm. |
