Breaking up of the component colours of light is called dispersion. Dispersion is caused due to the difference in velocity of each colour through a medium. Scattering of light takes place due to the interaction of light and particles suspended in a medium. Rainbow-dispersion. 

The blue color of the sky, the red color of the sky at sunrise or sunset-scattering.
