D.1. We use metaphors and similes to describe things and people in an interesting way . Both similes and metaphors compare something or some person to something else. They create vivid pictures in the mind of a reader or listener. The only difference is that in a simile we use 'like' or 'as' in our comparisons.A metaphor is a more direct way of comparison.A metaphor says something or some person is something else. This creates a clearerpicture in the mind.Simile: He strode into the room like an angry lion. He's as gentle as a lamb with hischildren.Metaphor: He is an angry lion when someone upsets him. He's a gentle lamb withhis children. |
