Compare and contrast the principles of Jainism and Buddhism |
|
Answer» There are many similarities between Jainism and Buddhism. Both RELIGIONS were born out of pessimistic spirit of the time and as a revolt against orthodox Brahmanical Hindusim. Both BELIEVED that world is a MISERY and man is subjected to results of karma. Both taught that non-violence is the means of salvation. Jainism preaches the practice of extreme non-violence, self-mortification and rigorous penance unlike Buddhism. Jainism did not reject caste system entirely and were more ACCOMMODATING to Hindus but Buddhism rejected caste system and SEVERED the contacts with Hinduism. |
