Sulphitation Process

  • It is the process of purification of mainly cane juice by employing lime and sulphur dioxide (SO₂) GAS.
  • This process GENERALLY USED for clarification of sugarcane juice in planitation white sugar manufacturing industry.
  • The sulphur dioxide is drawn by a fan into an absorption column in which the liquid flows.
  • The aim of sulphitation is to PREVENT either microbiological DEGRADATION or unwanted colour formation.
