Class XII problemWhy Haloarenes are insoluble in water but soluble in benzene? |
|
Answer» The RULE of solubility is 'LIKE DISSOLVES like' i.e. polar SOLVENT dissolves polar molecules whereas non-polar molecules are dissolved in non polar solvents. Haloarenes are non polar in NATURE. So they are dissolved in a non-polar solvent benzene, but cannot be dissolved in a polar solvent water. |
