Chemistry...Doubt....Please Help me out.

Answer»

HELLO USER,

Here's your answer:

REACTION: H₂ + Cl₂ ----> 2HCl

Volume ratio = 1 : 1 : 2
(1 volume of H₂, 1 volume of Cl₂ and 2 VOLUMES of HCl)

Given that, 4cm³ of Hydrogen is unreacted.

So, volume of reacted mixture = (36 - 4) cm³ = 32 cm³

Now, 1 volume of H₂ =

\frac{1}{2} \times 32 = 16cm^{3}

Again, 1 volume of Cl₂ =

\frac{1}{2} \times 32 = 16cm^{3}

ACTUAL volume of Hydrogen given at first = (16 + 4) cm³ = 20 cm³

Hence, original COMPOSITION of the mixture was, 20cm³ of Hydrogen and 16 cm³ of Chlorine.

Hope my answer is satisfactory...
THANKS!
