CH_(3)CONH_(2) is a we4aker base than CH_(3)CH_(2)NH_(2). |
Answer» Solution :Due to resonance, the lone pair of ELECTRONS on the nitrogen atom in `CH_(3)CONH_(2)` is delocalized over the carbonyl GROUP, C=O. As a RESULT, electron density on the N-atom I acetamide decreases. In contrast, in ethylamine, due to +I-effect of the ethyl group, electron density on the N-atom increases. Consequently, `CH_(3)CONH_(2)` is a weaker BASE than `CH_(3)CH_(2)NH_(2)`. |
