1.

Calculate the (a) momentum and (b) de Broglie wavelength of the electrons accelerated through a potential difference of 56 V.

Answer»

For electron, mass m = 9.1 × 10–31 kg

(a) Momentum p = √2mEk = √2meV

= √(2x 9.1 x 10-31 x 1.6 x 10-19 x 56) = 4.04 x 10-24 kg ms-1

(b) de Broglie wavelength λ = h/p = (6.63 x 10-34/4.14 x 10-24)

= 1.64 × 10–10 m = 0.164 nm
