(b) The vapour pressures of pure liquids A and B are 450 mm and 700 mm of Hg respectively at 350 K. Calcualte the composition of the liquid mixture if total vapour pressure is 600 mm of Hg. Also find the composition of the mixture in the vapour phase.

Answer»

<P>

Solution :(b) If `x_(A)` is MOL FRACTION of A in liquid phase, then `x_(A)(450)+(1-x_(1))(700)=600 or x_(A)=0.4, x_(B)=0.6.` HENCE, `p_(A)=0.4xx450=180mm, p_(B)=0.6xx700=420mm, y_(A)=(180)/(600)=0.3, y_(B)=(420)/(600)=0.7`
