Reproduction is a fundamental feature of all knownlife; each individual organism exists as the result of reproduction. There are two forms of reproduction:asexualandsexual. In asexual reproduction, an organism can reproduce without the involvement of another organism. Asexual reproduction is not limited tosingle-celled organisms. Sexual reproduction typically requires the sexual interaction of two specialized organisms, calledgametes, which contain half the number ofchromosomesof normal cells and are created bymeiosis, with typically a malefertilizinga female of the samespeciesto create a fertilizedzygote.
