Assertion: A white precipitate is obtained when an aq solution of sodium thiosuphate is treated with AgNO_(3) solution and if the precipitate is heated with water, a black precipitate is obtained, and the supernatent liquid then gives a white precipitate with BaCl_(2) solution. Reason: Ag^(+) ion forms a complex withn thiosulphate ions which upon hydrolysis undergoes disproportionation to yield SO_(4)^(2-) ion(supernatent liquid) and Ag_(2)S (black precipitate) |
