Aromatic amines are weaker bases than aliphatic amines. Why? |
| Answer» SOLUTION :The basic character of AMINES is due to presence of a LONE pair of electrons on N-atom. Aromatic amines have RESONANCE structure and lone pair of electrons becomes less AVAILABLE for co-ordination. No such resonance exists in aliphatic amines and lone pair is easily available. Hence aromatic amines are weaker bases than aliphatic amines. | |
