1.

Arithmetic mean of two numbers is 5. If one number is 6, find the other number.

Answer»

Suppose, another number is x2
x̄ = \(\frac{6+x_2}{2}\)
∴ 5 =   \(\frac{6+x_2}{2}\)
∴ 10 = 6 + x2
∴ x2 = 10 – 6 = 4
Hence, another number = 4.
