Length of 1st piece = 2x
Length of 2ND piece = 4x

According to the question ,

2x + 4x = 30 foot
6x = 30
X = 30 ÷ 6
x = 5

So,

Length of the small piece = length of the 1st piece = 2x = 2 x 5 = 10 foot
And the length of the 2nd piece = 4x = 4 x 5 = 20 foot
