1.

Andrew cut a 30-foot long wooden board into 2 pieces. The ratio of the length of the two pieces is 2:4. What is the length of the shorter piece of wood

Answer»

SHORTER PIECE is 10 foot long.

Length of the wooden board = 30 foot

After cutting the wooden board into two pieces , with a ratio of 2 : 4 , Say

  • Length of 1st piece = 2x
  • Length of 2ND piece = 4x

According to the question ,

  • 2x + 4x = 30 foot
  • 6x = 30
  • X = 30 ÷ 6
  • x = 5

So,

  • Length of the small piece = length of the 1st piece = 2x = 2 x 5 = 10 foot
  • And the length of the 2nd piece = 4x = 4 x 5 = 20 foot
