So, (B) is HCHO (METHANAL) `underset("Methanol(A)")(CH_3OH) overset((O))to underset("Methanol(B)")(HCHO)` Formaldehyde REACTS with `CH_3MgBr`. followed by acid hydrolysis produces primary alcohol and (C) is identified from the formula as `CH_3 - CH_2OH` -Ethanol. Ethanol liberates `H_2` gas with metallic sodium.
