Answer» SOLUTION :(i) Compound A is identified as BENZALDEHYDE `C_(6)H_(5)CHO` from its molecular FORMULA. `C_(6)H_(5)CHO` undergoes Cannizzaro REACTION and it does not reduce Fehling's solution. `C_(6)H_(5)CHO+C_(6)H_(5)CHOoverset(NaOH)toC_(6)H_(5)CH_(2)OH+C_(6)H_(5)COONa` (ii) Benzaldehyde reacts with aniline to form shiff's base `C_(6)H_(5)CH=NC_(6)H_(5)` and it is (B). `C_(6)H_(5)-overset(H)overset(|)(C)=O+underset("Aniline")(C_(6)H_(5)NH_(2))tounderset("Schiff's base(B)")(C_(6)H_(5)CH=NC_(6)H_(5))+H_(2)O` (iii) Benzaldehyde reacts with chlorine in the presence of catalyst to give m-chlorobenzaldehyde and it is (C).
