Among the following which one is wrong statement ?

Answer»

`PH_(5) and BiCl_(5)` do not EXIST
`p pi - d pi` bonds are present in `SO_(2)`
`SeF_(4) and CH_(4)` have same SHAPE
`I_(3)^(+)` has bent geometry

Solution :`H_(2)` being a weak oxidising agent, it cannot OXIDISE P to its highest O.S. of +5 and hence `PH_(5)` does not exist. Similarly, `Cl_(2)` being a weak oxidising agent, it cannot oxidise Bi to its highest O.S. of +5 and hence `BiCl_(5)` does not exist. Thus, option (a) is correct.
`SO_(2)` has one `p pi-d pi` bond. Thus option (b) is also correct.
In `SeF_(4)`, Se is `dsp^(3)` hybridized and hence it has trigonal bipyramidal geometry while in `CH_(4)`, C is `sp^(3)`-hybridized and hence it has tetrahedral structure. Thus, option (c) is wrong.
`I_(3)^(+)` has bent structure. This option is also correct.
