Aim: To avoid rusting of Iron. Requirements: Iron nails, three water bottles, water. Procedure: a. Take three bottles with wide mouths.b. Label them A, B and C.c. Fill about half of bottle A with ordinary tap water.d. Fill bottle B with water which has been boiled and cooled to the same level as in A.e. In bottle C, take the same boiled and cooled water and of same amount as in other bottles.f. In each bottle put a few similar Iron nails so that they are completely underwater.g. Add a teaspoon full of cooking oil to the water in bottle C. So that it forms its film on its surface.h. Put the bottles away for a few days.i. Take out nails from each bottle and observe them. Record your observations in your book.Observations:Bottles Colour change of nail( Yes/No)1. Bottle A2. Bottle B3. Bottle CConclusion: Rusting takes place in the presence of oxygen and moisture. |
