1.

A wooden block of mass 50 kg and dimensions 10 cm × 30 cm × 50 cm is kept on a table top. The pressure exerted by the wooden block on the table top will be maximum, if it is made to lie on the table on its side of dimension10 cm × 30 cm30 cm × 50 cm10 cm × 50 cmEither (2) or (3)

Answer»

ANSWER:

  • (1) 10cm ×30cm is the required

Given:-

  • Mass ,m = 50 kg
  • Length of block ,l = 10 cm
  • Breadth of block ,b = 30 cm
  • Height of block ,h = 50 cm

To Find:-

Solution:-

As we have to calculate the maximum pressure exerted by block on the table .

Pressure is defined as the force per unit area. And we also know that, Pressure is inversely proportional to area .

P ∝ 1/A

where,

  • P denote Pressure
  • S denote Area

It means that ,

If Area increase then Pressure decreases

If Area decrease then Pressure increases.

So the minimum area on which the pressure applied is maximum .

• A = 10×30 → A = 300 cm²

So the required DIMENSION of the table is 10 × 30

  • OPTION (1) 10×30 is the required answer.
