A sold an article to B at a profit of 2.5%. B sold the same article to C at a loss of 10%C paid R 9.90 for it, how much did it cost A?

Answer»

Let the article be x.

With the profit of 2.5%=x+2.5x/100

With loss of 10% = = (x+2.5x/ 100)*10/100 = 102.5x/100

Now new cost = 102.5x/ 100-102.5x/1000 = 92250x/100000 = 9.9

x=10.73

So cost=10.73
