A shopkeeper allows 20% off on the marked price of goods and still gets a profit of 25%. What is the actual cost to him of an article marked Rs. 500?

Answer»

Given,

M.P. = 500

Discount = 20%

Discount = \(\frac{20}{100}\) = \(\frac{M.P.-S.P.}{M.P.}\)

S.P. = \(\frac{80}{100}\)M.P.

S.P. = \(\frac{80}{100}\)x 500 = 400

He gets the profit of 25%

\(\frac{25}{100}\) = \(\frac{S.P.-C.P.}{C.P.}\)

\(\frac{20}{100}\)C.P. = S.P.

C.P. = \(\frac{100}{125}\)x 400

C.P. = 320

So, he gets the article for Rs 320/-
