Question:

A person is flying a KITE at an angle of ELEVATION 60° The length of the thread is 30 m. Find the height of a flying kite from the ground.

Answer:

The height of the kite flying from the ground is 25.98 m.

Given:

The angle of elevation is 60°.

The length of the thread is 30 m.

To find:

The height of the kite from the ground.

Explanation:

Let, ABC is a right ANGLED triangle in which, ∠B=90°, ∠C = 60° and CA = 30 m.

Hence we get,

Perpendicular = AB

Base = BC

Hypotenuse = AC=30 m.

We know that,

sin θ = \frac{perpendicular}{hypotenuse}

sin 60° = \frac{\sqrt{3} }{2}

\frac{AB}{AC}= \frac{\sqrt{3} }{2}

\frac{AB}{30} = \frac{\sqrt{3} }{2}

\frac{AB}{<klux>15</klux>}=\sqrt{3}

⇒ AB = 1.732 × 15

         = 25.98 m.

∴ The height of the kite from the ground is 25.98 m.
