LET the PRESENT ages of A and B be x and y respectively.

ATQ,

• x = 2y (equation 1)

• (x-5) = 3(y-5)

x - 5 = 3y - 15

x - 3y = -15 +5

2y - 3y = -10 (from equation 1)

-y = -10

y = 10

Put y=10 in equation 1,

x = 2(10)

x = 20

Hence present ages of A and B are 10 and 20 respectively.
