A force F is required to break a wire of length Land radius r. What is the force required to break a wire of the same material, twice the length and 4 times the radius? |
|
Answer» Solution :BREAKING stress is independent of LENGTH. It is EQUAL to breaking force per unit area. So breaking stress `=(F)/(pir^(2))` , So `(F)/(pir^(2))` in first case is equal to `(F^(1))/(PI(4pi)^(2))` `:.F.=16F` , So the force required is 16 F in the second case. |
