1.

A dragster accelerates to a speed of 11m/s over a distance of 398m . Determine the acceleration (assumed uniform) of the dragster

Answer»

Given :

▪ Initial velocity = zero

▪ Final velocity = 11m/s

▪ Distance travelled = 398m

To Find :

ACCELERATION of dragster.

Concept :

☞ In this question, Acceleration has said to be uniform throughout the motion, we can EASILY APPLY third equation of KINEMATICS to solve this question.

Third equation of kinematics :

v² - u² = 2as

where,

▪ v denotes final velocity

▪ u denotes initial velocity

▪ a denotes acceleration

▪ s denotes distance

Calculation :

→ v² - u² = 2as

→ (11)² - (0)² = 2a(398)

→ 121 = 796a

→ a = 121/796

a = 0.15m/s²
