(a) It is defined as the reference standard used to measure a physical quantity.

(b) (i) The physical quantity which are treated as independent of other, it means that they cannot be defined in terms of other units, are known as fundamental physical quantity. These are the units of measurement of length, mass, time etc.

(ii) These are the units of measurement of all other physical quantities which can be obtained from fundamental units, 

e.g. Velocity – (m/s), 

Acceleration –m/s2

Pressure – Pa Force – N.
