Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : 2

Given:

A beaker contains acid and water in the ratio 1 ∶ x. When 30 litres of the mixture and 5 litres of water are mixed, the ratio of acid and water becomes 2 ∶ 5.

Calculations:

In 30 litres of solution

Acid = (1 × 30)/(1 + x)

water = (x × 30)/(1 + x)

according to question

\(\frac{\frac{30}{1\ +\ x}}{\frac{30x}{1\ +\ x}\ +\ 5}\ =\ \frac{2}{5}\)

⇒ 30/(35x + 5) = 2/5

⇒ 70x + 10 = 150

⇒ x = 2

∴ The value of x is 2.
