Answer» Given: Temperature at which the clock PENDULUM BEATS seconds correctly = 30°C α = 1.9 × 10⁻⁵K⁻¹ To find: Time loss or gain per day when temperature falls to 10°C Solution: Let us assume that the pendulum has a time period of 2 sec. ΔT = 1/2*αΔθt Where Δθ = 10°-30°C = -20°C t = Seconds in a day = 24×60×60 Putting the values in the EQUATION we get: ΔT = 1/2×1.9 × 10⁻⁵×(-20)×24×60×60 ΔT = -16.416 Here NEGATIVE sign shows that time is lost. ∴ Time lost in one day = 16.416 sec Therefore time lost in one day will be EQUAL to 16.416 sec. |
