Answer»

Although volume is not a base unit in the SI system, there is a derived unit of volume in the metric (or SI) system: m³.

The most widely sold matchbox is: 0.05 m x 0.035 m x 0.015 m in size which makes it’s volume: 0.00002625 m³

As the m³ is a rather unwieldy amount of volume for everyday use, the Liter or, as the Americans insist on spelling it - the litre - is sanctioned to be used alongside the official metric units. One litre is 0.001 m³ (1 dm x 1 dm x 1 dm) which makes the volume of the matchbox: 0.02625 l or 26.25 ml
