I am assuming the dice is 6 sided.Hence the sample space has 6 possible outcomes-S={1,2,3,4,5,6}.Let all outcomes are equally likely(fair dice).Hence Probability of any one outcome occurring= 1/6.The event that we get that an even number on tossing the die can occur in 3 possible ways. Let E denote this event.E= {2,4,6}Now P(E)= 3*1/6= 1/2. Here we can also directly use discrete uniform law since the sample space is finite, discrete and all outcomes are equally likely(uniform). This means that we can find the probability of an event by just counting.P(E) = k/n=3/6.(k is no: of elements corresponding to the event and n is no: of elements in the sample space). |
